March Fishing Cedar Creek Lake Tx with Chuck Rollins @BigCrappie.com

March fishing on CC Lake
Ahhh, it’s finally March and old man winter is nearly gone. The fish are moving from deep water locations into creeks and shallower water to start spawning. It’s hard to believe that we had 10 inches of snow on the ground a couple weeks ago with temps near zero degrees for several days. It’s been one winter I’ll never forget.
I’ve always had a love hate relationship with March. Most people just assume it’s easy fishing with limits being caught everyday. I wish that was the case but it’s certainly not. We generally have some amazing fast action trips but we also have our share of very tough trips. Our patterns and locations that we fish change almost daily in March. The fishing can be on fire one day and horrible the next. That’s the typical March that I’m very familiar with. Today was a perfect example of that. We had boats in multiple creeks today and on the lake looking for a hot bite. One of the creeks was just loaded with fish that just wouldn’t bite. The Livescope graph showed lots of nice fish in many locations but they simply weren’t hungry. Im pretty sure our Guide threw everything but the kitchen sink in trying to get a response. It just wasn’t happening. We’ve learned to take it one day at a time around here. Tomorrow is a brand new day. They could easily decide its feeding time and we know exactly where they are hiding. I take the time out of my busy day today to write this so that you too will know what March fishing can be like. It’s often feast or famine. Everyone wants to fill the cooler with shallow water crappie and March is the best time to catch them shallow. Just be prepared for the chance that fishing in March is very volatile and changes with the wind.
So you may ask “when is a great time to fish”. Well, anytime you can go is a good time. Crappie are typically good all year long with March being the most challenging month for me. Simply due to the constant pattern change. The most dependable time to catch them is late spring thru fall. The water is warm and they usually will bite just fine. White Bass typically turn on by mid April and bite great the rest of the year and into winter. Full coolers of fish & lots of smiles are certainly the norm for warm water fishing here on Cedar Creek Lake.
We hope you’ll join us in making memories this year.
